Hello, I'm so glad you're here!
I am Jessica, and I'm an artist, art instructor, creative coach and the owner of the Etsy shop, Sunlit Brushstrokes. My aim is to create artwork that brings God’s beauty and peace into your everyday life, enhances your celebrations, and inspires you to enjoy your own journey of creativity. Taking time to be reminded of the faithfulness of God through His Word and the beauty of His creation brings peace to my own life. I hope and pray my artwork does the same for you! |
Artist Statement:
My art is inspired by the beauty I see in the world around me. Drawing and painting allow me to understand more of my Creator's character while I explore light, colour harmony and principles of design. As I create art, I experience the thrill of tasting a glimpse of His goodness and love. It inspires me to worship Him and to trust Him with the canvas of my life.
I gravitate most towards transparent watercolour for it's ability to capture the luminosity of light and reveal the playful colour in shadows. It is the perfect medium for delicate flowers.
The immediacy of oils allows me to work quickly, laying down rich hues and textures within a landscape. The flexible, forgiving nature of oils lends itself to exploration where I learn lessons that I carry into the rest of my work. Each new discovery propels me to do the next painting.
Most recently, I have been developing loose watercolor florals and scripture lettering, combining them to design meaningful home décor as well as journaling pages and elements bringing God's Word into everyday life.
I have been blessed to glean from artists who share their discoveries in classes, online courses, DVDs, and books. Each one has inspired and challenged me on my artistic journey. I am grateful for such opportunities.
Sharing beauty with others through lessons and paintings multiplies the joy of discovery. It excites me to see others grow and create pieces of beauty themselves. My students often teach me more than I teach them! My desire is that anyone who sees my work would experience a taste God's goodness and know that He is trustworthy!
